Mays, quien planea especializarse en cine y producci\u00f3n multimedia, acudi\u00f3 a la universidad junto con su madre para retirar sus pertenencias del dormitorio.<\/p>\n<p>El se instal\u00f3 en su hogar para terminar el a\u00f1o escolar de manera virtual, pero fue todo un desaf\u00edo cambiar sus h\u00e1bitos de estudio para realizar las tareas escolares desde su casa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEn mi casa hay un ambiente relajado y sereno\u201d, menciona Mays. \u201cPero con mis estudios, tengo que aplicarme m\u00e1s cuando estoy en casa. Esa fue una transici\u00f3n dif\u00edcil para m\u00ed\u201d. Para ayudar a motivarse, Mays empez\u00f3 a trabajar en la habitaci\u00f3n que su madre hab\u00eda preparado como su oficina de trabajo remoto.<\/p>\n<p>Como estudiante de primer a\u00f1o, Mays tomaba principalmente clases introductorias de ingl\u00e9s, geograf\u00eda, historia y geolog\u00eda. En cada una de esas clases, los profesores utilizaron diferentes enfoques para impartir las clases en l\u00ednea.<\/p>\n<p>El profesor de la clase de geolog\u00eda se grab\u00f3 frente a un pizarr\u00f3n en un aula vac\u00eda y comparti\u00f3 diapositivas con sus estudiantes en tiempo real como si estuviese impartiendo una clase normal. Otro profesor envi\u00f3 diapositivas a sus estudiantes junto con una narraci\u00f3n grabada. Mays consider\u00f3 que estos m\u00e9todos fueron eficaces, ya que los profesores continuaron ense\u00f1ando como si los estudiantes realmente estuvieran presentes.<\/p>\n<p>En una tercera clase, el profesor env\u00edo enlaces a videos en l\u00ednea, les solicit\u00f3 a los estudiantes que respondieran a algunas preguntas sobre los videos y les pidi\u00f3 que le enviaran un email si ten\u00edan alg\u00fan problema.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSegu\u00ed aprendiendo en mi clase de geolog\u00eda porque el maestro continu\u00f3 ense\u00f1ando la materia\u201d, menciona Mays. \u201cPero en mis otras clases, solamente nos daban el material y nosotros ten\u00edamos que aprender por nuestra cuenta. \u00bfPara qu\u00e9 ir a la escuela si yo mismo podr\u00eda aprender con unos videos en YouTube? La mayor\u00eda de los estudiantes no van a enviar un email al profesor para pedirle que ense\u00f1e lo que se supone deber\u00eda estar ense\u00f1ando\u201d.<\/p>\n<h2>Oportunidades perdidas para recibir un apoyo adicional<\/h2>\n<p>Como parte de su especializaci\u00f3n en cine y producci\u00f3n multimedia, Mays esperaba participar en un nuevo programa de cine que ofrecer\u00eda su universidad el pr\u00f3ximo a\u00f1o. Pero el campus cerr\u00f3 sus puertas unos d\u00edas antes de su reuni\u00f3n con el asesor acad\u00e9mico, quien le iba a proporcionar m\u00e1s informaci\u00f3n acerca del programa.<\/p>\n<p>El caos de los estudiantes \u2014 y sus asesores \u2014 tratando de adaptarse y trabajar desde sus casas impidi\u00f3 que se llevara a cabo esa reuni\u00f3n.
