ASU Remote 2021: Getting Started with Equity in Gateway Courses

An overview of the tips and best practices for initiating an intentional movement to improve equity in gateway courses within your department.

Patricia O’Sullivan, Content Manager at Every Learner Everywhere and Program Manager in Academic Innovation at the University of Mississippi and Dr. Jeremiah Sims, Director of Equity at the College of San Mateo discuss how improving equity is a critical element of an increasing number of academic department chairs’ strategic plans. This presentation provides an overview of the Getting Started with Equity Guide, a resource from Every Learner Everywhere that is full of practical guidance for making gateway courses and degree pathways more equitable. Presenters discuss departmental equity audits, teaching for inclusion, and resources to address inclusion and equity in specific disciplines.
