The IIRP Graduate School’s Course Design for Student Success Rubric, is a robust rubric designed to support student engagement, access, and success across varied learner populations and institutions, including undergraduate, graduate, 2-year, etc. We want to inspire faculty, instructional designers, and administrators along their path of continual improvement. This rubric is not intended to be evaluative or shaming but to highlight successes as well as opportunities for enhancement.
Using the Rubric for Continuous Improvement: Recommendations for Success, is a companion guide to ensure three recommendation areas, (1) Data-Informed Instruction and Continuous Improvement, (2) Ongoing Professional Learning for Faculty, and (3) Student Participation in Course and Program Design, are implemented with attention to:
-
- Student Success: Center course design on the experiences and outcomes of all learners, recognizing diverse needs and backgrounds.
- Evidence: Ground practices in research about what works to improve student learning and success.
- Capacity Building: Develop institutional infrastructure, not just individual initiatives.
- Collaboration: Engage cross-functional teams that include faculty, staff, administrators, and students.
- Sustainability: Create systems and cultures that support continuous improvement over time.
